How we make your bust

Creating this timeless work of art is the result of a collaboration between the customer and the artisan.  To start, the family uploads photos of the subject with their order.  Our customer service team then reviews the photograph and contacts the family to discuss the suitability of the photo and to obtain more photos as necessary to assure the artisan has sufficient input to create a satisfying result.

Once we are satisfied we have the necessary views, we forward these photos to our artisan who begins the process of creating a clay bust.  Once complete this will become the basis for carving the final product from marble.

The artisan will complete what could be considered a "first draft" of the bust and will send photos from several perspectives to us. We will then forward these on to the family for comment.  This first draft will be a good representation but will probably not yet have captured the true essence of the subject.  This is to be expected.

The family, with the help of our customer service representative, will then create a critique of the bust providing the artisan with necessary corrections and this will be forwarded on to the artisan.  The artisan will then make the requested corrections and submit another set of photos for the family's review and approval or comments.  Once again our customer service representative will work with the family to detail any additional modifications requested and this will be resubmitted to the artisan.

The process of photos of progress followed by comments will continue until the family is satisfied that the likeness shown in the photograph is acceptable.  The time between submission and a new set of photos is only a day or two once the bust is underway.  Since the clay can harden, it's necessary that the family be available to respond promptly to each set of photos to keep the process moving.

Once the bust has been approved, a fiberglass mold is created from the clay.  This mold will be used in the final carving process as the clay is considered too fragile for extended use.

Once the bust is carved from marble, photos are once again sent for comment and approval.  Any final modifications can then be made, keeping in mind that one can only remove from the bust and not add marble back on.  Upon approval, the bust is carefully packed and shipped to our office for inspection and for installation of the stainless steel keepsake urn.  It's then repackaged and shipped to the customer.
